This course covers various aspects of outdoor photography. The course covers topics such as equipment, setup, lighting, locations and composition among others. The course is 3 hours long consisting of discussion and taking photographs (practical application) for new and advanced photographers. Instruction will cover the use of cell phones, tablets, compact or DSLR cameras. Subject matter considered by some as technical and complicated is translated it into easy to understand terms.

Equipment – Your Best Camera is the One You Have With You

  • Camera Basics (Cell Phone, Tablet, Compact & DSLR)
  • Taking Better Photos (your cameras focusing and light sensors)
  • Tripod/Mono pod? Important or Not
  • Benefits of Reflectors, Flags and Filters
  • Make Yourself Comfortable & Safe 
Outdoor Camera Settings
  • Cell Phone, Tablet & DSLR Outdoor Settings
  • Take Control of the Light
  • Telephoto vs. Wide Angle Lens 
Outdoor Composition
  • Avoiding Chaos - Shooting What You See vs. What the Camera Sees
  • Landscape Rules
  • Best Light of the Day
  • Cold Weather Photography
  • Macro vs. Close-Up vs. Wide Angle 
Equipment Needed:
  • Cell phone, tablet, compact or DSLR camera 
  • Extra batteries, accessories, etc. (if available) 
  • Tripod or mono pod (if available) 
  • Kneeling pad or seat cushion (if available) 
  • Advanced photographers may bring filters, reflectors, etc. 
Follow Up Review
  • A voluntary Zoom meeting will be held for those students who wish to have their class photos displayed and reviewed. (Date and time to be announced)
